My writing career started in about 5th grade when I began a diary because that's when I felt I was having the most fun and knew I wanted to look back on it someday. I really enjoyed writing then because I could be creative, it was about me and only for me; therefore I didn't have to worry about being neat or grammatically correct. When Jr. high and high school came, writing turned into non-fiction and we were obligated to write serious papers; memos, reports, proposals, presentations, demonstrations, etc. My diary writing stopped around this time because I was so burnt out and bored with serious writing that I just didn't want to write anymore than I had to. As soon as I had taken all the required classes, I stopped taking English and writing courses. I found an interest for math, science, and chemistry because these were classes I liked and got to do experiments with.
When college came I knew that my generals would have English somewhere involved and I hope that I could just get them over with. In my dream world, that would have been the case; turns out that the science/math/chemistry based major I picked involved a lot of lab reporting and notes. In the world today, you can't avoid writing; and since I finally accepted this, I don't mind writing lab reports and even find time to write down my emotions when they've been built up and need to be let out. Even if writing has to be professional and for school most of the time; it can definitely be a stress reliever when you need to get everything out without people judging you.
Most of my writing right now is for school work and in preparation for the future to come; on the side though, I write many emails and myspace/facebook messages and am constantly abusing my unlimited texting option on my cell phone. Everyone has their vices to get through the stress of college and besides going out, writing can be very soothing.
